Random Act of Kindness

I was just the victim of a random act of kindness! My kids and hubby are out for the evening, so I decide that I’ll have a nice chicken sandwich, get some good  practice on the Beethoven Concerto I’m performing next month, then relax with a junk food snack while watching Netflix or something.  So, I [...]

Unplugging and Reconnecting

I’ve just been inspired by this post:  What happens when mom unplugs teens for 6 months? Basically, she banned all computers, MP3 players, video game systems, cell phones, etc etc, for 6 months.  And to kickstart the whole experiment, they went several weeks with no electricity at all.  She figured that after weeks of old-fashioned [...]

Knitting in the Round Lessons

I’m learning to knit… I’ve got the basics and I’m trying some trickier stuff.  My new project is a pair of socks (from the toe up!) with a set of double-pointed needles.  Lessons learned so far: Knitting in the Round Lesson 1: Knit the outside, not the inside. Knitting in the Round Lesson 2A: When [...]

The Big Bed Move is Complete

When last I posted about Pomme’s progression in sleeping arrangements, she was happily going to sleep in her own room, by her own choice, though since it was still a “new thing,” we had not yet moved her “real” bed from own room to hers.  We wanted to make sure this was a “permanent thing” [...]

Another Overdue Update With Big News!

I’m such a naughty blogger! I just was given a warm thank you by a regular reader, while chatting on a thread at MDC, who called my blog ‘inspirational’.  Then I realized I hadn’t posted in over two weeks, and there is so much to blog about! So I’m going to try to catch up [...]

Media Problem Solved and Strawberries

After googling about WordPress media upload problems, I browsed lots of irrelevant (about WP 2.5) or inapplicable (about blogs hosted at wordpress.com) or incomprehensible (change security settings to 777 — huh?), I did the simple(and overdue) task of upgrading my WP 2.7 installation to 2.8. And uploading works now. So here we have a picture [...]

Mushroom Compost!!

I had an unbelievable find this morning.  After having searched near and far for mushroom compost, finding that the local mushroom farm was now closed, finding that the only sources in the provinces were too far away… I had resigned myself to not having any for this garden season.  I settled on just four composts [...]

Post All Gone…

Holy moley.  I made a long post and published it, all about my garden update.  Then I used “back” on my browser to get back to a blank ‘new post’ editing page, and made the post about Pomme’s developing counting skills. It seems that post REPLACED the garden one.  Whoops.  So many words, just gone… [...]

Waylaid by Rhubarb

Today was supposed to be day two of my square foot gardening building extravaganza.  And I did get some work done… This morning I managed to finish building the 5 remaining boxes and tentatively placed them on the lawn, working a little bit to level the areas where they were objectionably tilted. But then the [...]

My Square Foot Garden: Building Day 1

Today I was finally able to set about building my boxes for my square foot garden.  The weather was gorgeous and I had some actual free time. I had bought all the wood last weekend: … and stacked it neatly according to their destined boxes.  The bigger boards on the right are for the potato [...]
