I sing in a local community choir and despite the fact I know I can't sing high notes the director keeps sticking me in with the 1st or 2nd sopranos. Worse, giving me soprano solos. And the funny thing is, when he gives me those parts and when I relax and trust his judgement, I can hit those high notes. He's absolutely right. I'm betting that 12 years of living and maturing gave you what you needed to play your instrument well. I think it has a lot to do with the body you’ve got and what you think you can do with it.
